Which One Am I? An Artistic Journey of Identity
A new documentary titled "Which One of You Am I?" offers a compelling visual narrative of the artistic world of Marjan Homayoun — an Iranian artist currently based in Cyprus. Her recent body of work, rooted in memory, identity, and inherited family stories, becomes the central subject of this intimate film. Directed by Reza Yassini and produced by Doost Motion, the film is now available to watch on the company’s official YouTube channel. Homayoun’s paintings draw from old family photographs, oral histories, and collective memories. In this documentary, she reflects on the creation of her painting series and her effort to capture the blurred line between personal and shared experience. Many of these images are based on stories she didn’t live through — yet they’ve become part of her inner world. As she says in the film: “Sometimes I forget which of these stories are mine, and which are not…” The documentary also touches on how the political and emotional atmosphere of Iran influenced her work. A large portion of the series was created in the summer of 2022, during a period of widespread unrest. The artist speaks candidly about the fear and despair she felt at the time — and how those feelings found their way into her paintings. But amidst the darkness, the film also explores her deep affection for the humor that runs through her family’s storytelling. Homayoun recalls how even the most painful moments in her family history were often retold with warmth and laughter. That spirit of transformation — of turning sorrow into something tender — is what she hoped to reflect in this series. ⸻ About Doost Motion Doost Motion is a film production company operating under the umbrella of Doost Art Gallery.
