In Between

Doost Art Gallery, Tehran Doost Art is pleased to present In Between, a solo exhibition by Iranian painter Mostafa Hamani at its Tehran location. The exhibition centers on quiet, intimate moments—fragments of everyday life where the figure is suspended between inner stillness and the gaze of an imagined other. “I am somewhere between the person I paint and the one who will later look at the painting,” Hamani writes. “I am not at the beginning, nor at the end.” Avoiding spectacle or dramatic narrative, Hamani’s works are drawn from sustained observation. Each painting is shaped through patient looking, registering subtle shifts in presence and atmosphere. The figures, often at rest or absorbed in private gesture, appear at once familiar and unreachable—echoes of a lived moment distilled through memory, space, and quiet attention. As Hamani notes, the paintings do not aim to interpret or represent; rather, they seek to reveal the invisible moment when something in the scene, however imperceptibly, has changed. What emerges is not simply the subject depicted, but a shared space between viewer, artist, and the lingering mood of the encounter.
