In Between In this series, I find myself positioned between two points: between the one whose image I create, and the one who will eventually look at it. I am neither at the beginning, nor at the end. I paint moments in the day, in rest, in self-absorption. There’s no particular event in the scene, but there is a sense of presence that remains unspoken. I’ve tried to approach that feeling through the act of painting. I’m not after precise representation or interpretation. I watch, I pause, and I choose the moment when something in the space has shifted—no matter how subtly. Each painting is the result of this long looking. Something from the model, something from the space, and something from me, almost unconsciously, finds its way into the work. What I want is for that specific moment—as it happened to me—to have the chance to be seen.
