52 Hertz Station
We have always wanted to escape the loneliness in the universe despite the advances in astronomy. However, our voice in the vastness of space is too faint and ineffective to be heard. Time in the universe is expanding at such a speed that everything within it quickly fades and disappears. In 1952, a whale was observed in the ocean emitting a sound at a frequency of 52 Hz, unable to hear or communicate with other whales. This was because it should have been able to produce and hear sounds in the range of 10 to 35 Hz.
This whale became known as the loneliest whale in the world. In my dream, this event might suggest the existence of beings in the universe who have differences in connecting with us humans.
This empathy and, at the same time, confusion, for me in the world of cartoon images and animation—where possibilities for inspiration and imagination are greatly amplified—has become the foundation for creating pieces inspired by paintings and sculptures related to my humorous interpretation of existence. A fanciful prediction of a fictional reality, presented in a humorous format with cartoon characters that could gently accompany us through the loneliness of the universe.
