The Pathway
In this collection, I sought to forge a new connection between humans and objects, aiming to create a visual space of memories. By prioritizing form, I began by using unfamiliar and more personal objects to paint “still life.” All elements of the paintings look to the past, rooted in my childhood. Moving forward, through collaging images or occasionally significant works from the history of painting, as well as ghosts and self-made forms, I attempted to explore another kind of “still life”: the depiction of memory and lived experience through lifeless and obsolete objects.
Along the way, I noticed the recurring presence of skull forms in my works—a feature that brings them closer to the tradition of “Vanitas” paintings. However, here, the “summoning of skulls” is, for me, not a symbol of resurrection but a focus on the “now” and the documentation of the death of the past. The stillness of the skulls must simultaneously be viewed in the light of the doves taking flight. In this collection, the arrangement of “lost time” or the reconfiguration of the “death of the past” becomes the liberating and enlightening pathway that painting has made possible for me.
