Karim Nasr (born 1952, Rasht, Iran) is an Iranian painter, illustrator, designer, and sculptor whose practice spans more than four decades and occupies a distinctive position in contemporary Iranian art. With an academic background in architecture from the Polytechnic of Central London and advanced studies in painting and illustration at the University of Tehran, Nasr has developed a unique visual language that bridges structural discipline with poetic introspection. His work navigates the space between figuration and abstraction, examining the subtle relationships between humans, objects, and their environments. Architecture plays a profound role in his artistic foundation, evident in his spatial awareness, compositional rigor, and sensitivity to form, surface, and volume. Through layered imagery and nuanced symbolism, Nasr explores concealed realities and emotional undercurrents embedded within everyday subjects. Nasr began his career in illustration, particularly in the field of children’s literature, before expanding into painting and sculpture. Over the years, he has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in more than one hundred group exhibitions in Iran and internationally. His solo shows have been hosted by prominent galleries such as Doost Art Gallery, Shirin Gallery, Homa Gallery, Vista Gallery, and Hoor Gallery. He is the recipient of multiple prestigious awards, including the Gold Plaque at the Bratislava Illustration Biennial (BIB) in 1991, and has served as a jury member for several national biennials in painting and illustration.
